We've been closely following progress of locally made cloth face masks - information for making your own, purchasing for yourself, or providing a donation to the frontlines. Although Tchoup Industries hasn't launched into this as a company, we've been working behind the scenes to make connections and are prioritizing updates to this information. Our goal is to provide our community with the best resources available!
Keep in mind these cloth masks do not intend to replace the n95 mask, but are a machine washable and reusable deterrent for spreading germs when out in public areas. Some healthcare workers are wearing them over their n95 masks to extend the life of the real deal.
FOR PURCHASE:
Jeanne Vockroth (New Orleans, LA)
Back in stock May 20th - Surface designer Jeanne Vockroth sews two styles of face masks using her own colorful and very New Orleanian custom fabrics.
Derive Studio (New Orleans, LA)
Coming Soon! Abby Wetsman, formerly of the Tchoup Industries production team, has been working on a design that includes a recycled nonwoven filter (think: that textured non-scratch CD case material). She's been using leftover bias tape from Tchoup Industries for the ties!
Spiritex (Asheville, NC)
This textile and apparel company is using their own sustainably sourced organic cotton to make masks and removable filters.
DeVoe (Jacksonville, FL)
$12.00 each and made using elastic straps and very hip, colorful scrap fabric from around designer Claire DeVoe's studio.
Winter Sessions (Denver, CO)
$14+ - They are selling by singles or batches on their online shop. This is also a "give & get" donation scenario so you can feel good about supporting these guys!
Artifact (Omaha, NE)
Another bag maker turned mask maker - these guys out of Omaha are providing a variety of unisex mask color options.
MAKE YOUR OWN:
Studio Habeas Corpus designed a version of the face mask that can be made using common household materials and a basic level of sewing. Her step by step instructions here are so straight forward and easy to follow!
Raleigh Denim Workshop's mask pattern/template is also available for download here. It features a pocket for adding a filter if you wish.
DONATE TO THE CAUSE:
Elizabeth Suzann (Nashville, TN) EX x COVID 19 Face Mask
The Elizabeth Suzann team is putting all effort into producing and delivering to the healthcare frontlines. You can provide a donation to keep their operations going during these lean times.
Know of others? Please share with us and we will add it to the post!
Consider sharing www.getmeppe-NOLA.com and their efforts…They are collecting PPE donations (actual medical supplies, like gloves, not fabric masks), but have also requested hand sewn surgical CAPS to protect their hair! Maybe you guys have a line on a great pattern for this? Maybe someone in your network wants to produce some, as there are SO MANY people making the masks…
