The Louisiana Bucket Brigade is an environmental health and justice nonprofit working with communities to end petrochemical pollution in Louisiana. Their vision is an informed, pollution-free and just Louisiana where people and environment are valued over profit. Tchoup Industries is inspired by, and proudly supports the LABB.
The LABB has created many innovative tools for communities that neighbor LA’s oil refineries and chemical plants. This includes the EPA-approved “Bucket,” which allows concerned citizens to take air samples and monitor their risk of chemical exposure, as well as the iWitness Pollution Map, a repository of eyewitness reports of pollution in the Gulf Region. Perhaps you’ve seen them making a statement in a Mardi Gras parade (such as, as the “Energizer Sunnies” pictured below).
One way Tchoup Industries has worked with LABB is through “Zombeads” – creating a more eco-conscious New Orleans Mardi Gras by selling locally-made, environmentally-sustainable throws. The 2015 Zombeads line includes Tchoup Industries handmade Rice Zipper Pouches (made from discarded rice bags from Crowley, LA) and Nutria Zipper Pouches (our upcycled rice bags with additional guilt-free nutria fur). Buy some for your Mardi Gras krewe – all proceeds go towards the environmental and social justice work of the LABB.
Tchoup Industries is also proud to have participated in the 2013 and 2014 LABB Earth Day Festivals, inspiring commitment to environmental health and social justice in Louisiana. Unfortunately, the 2015 festival commemorating the 5-year BP oil spill on April 18th was rained out, but we look forward to vending next year’s event!
Pictured below is Anne Rolfes, LABB Founding Director, as well as LABB’s mascot Captain Planet (Member Action Associate, Jenna deBoisblanc), modeling our Tchoup Industries Nutria le Tour purses at Earth Day Fest. They are LABB approved!
TAKE ACTION: 5 years after the BP disaster, the oil industry hasn’t changed. Donate to the LABB here, and help the organization stand up to big oil companies, or learn more about the LABB at labucketbrigade.org.
