Rent to Roam

As the summer starts to sizzle here in New Orleans and a pandemic still threatens the health of our nation, we are having to rethink travel plans and get more creative about how we can safely explore our own backyards.

Air travel for our family is out of the question right now, but an alluring option that's been running through my day dreams is renting an RV and hitting the road. My good friends in Colorado just rented one on outdoorsy.com and took it on a tour of Wyoming. Their feed during this trip was amazing! The beautiful campsites, views, and road trip freedom had me drooling. Could I possibly set up a little mini adventure a la @faroutfran?!

Local, driver-friendly RV rentals here in New Orleans can be found on outdoorsy.com and rvshare.com for about $150-$350 a night. Not too bad if you're considering this eliminates the cost of air travel and hotel/airbnb for a family. It may be more frugal to glamp or tent camp along the way if you're willing to give up a private toilet and temperature control.

If leaving the city is proving too difficult, you can rent other fun equipment to explore trails and bayous within a two hour drive. All you'd need is a bike, boat or paddle board! Here's a list of outdoor rental businesses I've gathered that will help make adventuring "no sweat" in the Big Easy.
